In May of 2014, Roseau Electric Cooperative installed a 10-kilowatt (kW) demonstration solar array on land near its office building. All electricity is sent into the office building and used internally.
The goal of the project is to provide members with real-world, northern Minnesota solar statistics.
The cooperative's employees installed the 24-panel system, which covers about 1,200 square feet. Line workers set the anchors, built crossbars and positioned panels. Underground electrical cable was sent into the building and hooked up to an independent meter.
The solar array is connected to the internet and offers both real-time and historical production information.
